Bombardier announced last week that Éric Martel has been appointed President and CEO, and a member of the Bombardier Board of Directors, effective April 6, 2020. Éric Martel joins Bombardier from Hydro-Québec, where he has served as President and CEO since July 2015. With revenues of approximately $10 billion, Hydro-Québec is one of the largest producers of hydroelectricity in the world.
Previously, Mr. Martel worked at Bombardier from 2002 to 2015. After having served as Vice President, Operations – North America at Bombardier Transport, he transferred to Bombardier Aerospace in 2005, where he initially held the position of Vice President, Challenger Programs and Dorval Plant. He then went on to assume a number of senior management roles at Bombardier Business Aircraft. He was appointed Vice President, Quality, Achieving Excellence System and Transformation in 2008 and became Senior Vice President, Bombardier Business Aircraft in 2010.
In 2011, Mr. Martel was named President of the division in charge of customer services. In 2014, he was appointed President, Bombardier Business Aircraft. In this capacity, he managed some 14,000 employees around the world.
Prior to joining Bombardier, Mr. Martel worked for various other high-profile multinational companies, such as Pratt & Whitney, Rolls Royce, Procter & Gamble and Kraft Foods. Éric Martel holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Laval University and was awarded an honorary doctorate by Concordia University in 2019. He is also a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership and chairs the Energy Community of the World Economic Forum (Davos).
